Jason & Amanda Langs family have been farming in Parkham for generations.
We breed and rear free range Gloucester old spot
pigs on our North Devon farm near Bideford. Our
pedigree boars and sows are registered with the
British Pig Association as the 'Broad Parkham' herd.
We also have a few un-reg sows. We chose
Gloucester Old Spots because of their top quality,
succulent pork and crunchy crackling along with
them being hardy and therefore well suited to
outdoor living.
Our pigs are reared as traditionally as possible and
fed mainly on our home grown corn. Sows farrow
in roomy stables & barns with lots of fresh straw (no
farrowing crates here!). The young pigs then go out
in the grass fields to grow in the sun (or mainly rain
this year!). They enjoy wallowing in the mud and
snuggling up in the arks at night. Gloucester Old
Spot pigs are good tempered and make lovely
mothers.
Our pigs are reared with plenty of freedom as we belive they should be.
In 2008 we have won awards for our pork and gammon which is all born & reared on this farm
- meaning complete traceability & minimum stress for the pigs.
